GINGLIK - Friday 31st August

THE FRIDAY SHAKEDOWN
GINGLIK
Shepherd’s Bush, W11
7pm – 2am, £5 on the door

It's time for another midnight session in West London's finest converted basement toilet. Bands to be confirmed. I'll be taking the usual mix of funk and disco 7s, bass heavy breaks / house / dubstep and dusting off a few vintage dubplates from the library archives. Bring your dancing shoes.

DATA 70 - Space Loops Vol. 2

The nice man at ENRAPTURED RECORDS tells us that the tapes have gone to the pressing plant. 10 more 1 minute loops to follow on from last year's double pack, this time on single, cyan vinyl 7".
Preview tracks from both releases on the Data 70 MYSPACE site.

THE RETURNS DESK

Not exactly the newest releases but that's never bothered me. These are still in the bag...

LEROSA – Ruski (Real Soon)
Downtempo house with an addictive, chopped up break.

KIDS FROM BRADY BUNCH – Drummer Man (Dynamite Soul)
Novelty funk re-press from the 1972 Brady Bunch LP

BURIAL - Ghost Hardware (Hyperdub)
Fire, rain and vinyl crackle. Not a wah wah bass line in sight. Original Dubstep Material.

THE EMOTIONS - I Don't Wanna Lose Your Love (CBS)
Proper disco. You know, the one 2 Bad Mice sampled

ALDO VANUCCI – When I See You Smile (Good Living, LP sampler)
It pains me to say it but F****y S**m has turned in a good dancehall mix of this tune

VOICES OF EAST HARLEM – New Vibration (Just Sunshine)
Crackly old 7”, produced by Curtis Mayfield, sung by angels.

MR CATRA – Rio Baile FunkMore Favela Booty Beats (Essay, Austria)
I don’t know much about Baile Funk but I’m always a sucker for drum beats made up of gunshots

DJ MARLEY MARL – Urban House EP (West End Tracks)
The hip hop legend is back with a brilliant house cut based around the classic Mr Fingers b-line

THE DRAYTONES – Keep Loving Me (1965 Recordings)
Argentinean front man does Louie Louie with Revolver-era backward guitar solo.

BASEMENT JAXX - Do Your Thing (Seiji Remix) (XL)
Bugz In The Attic man strips it down to kick drum and vocal. No cheese.

WNCL - Myspace Player

A few new-ish bits up on the MYSPACE player.

SUNOSIS "LEAP" (WNCL Remix)
house remix of a track from the new SUNOSIS LP (Warmed, Rednetic Records). Sunosis is the bloke wot runs Ginglik innit.

WNCL "C&L RIDDIM"
a dubstep track I did for Rowan although he told me that actually it was more of a breakstep thing

THE CITROPHONIC WORKSHOP "FEELING TOO BIG TO DANCE"
the result of a challenge between me and TOBI ONE (Kult / Tag / For Your Pleasure) to re-visit our pre-jungle hardcore roots. Comes complete with cheesey I-Can-Feel-A-Rush-Coming-Over-Me type breakdown. We're living in a time capsule.

UNIQUE 3 "THE THEME" (WNCL Remix)
still up there, the intro of this remix almost got used for the opening of the new UNIQUE 3 LP (Invasive Signals, Fat! Records). Almost, but not quite!

SUNRAY - Tomorrow LP

The second SUNRAY album, TOMORROW, is available now on STRAWBERRY RECORDING CO., as a CD only release. I didn't play on this one although the sleeve does feature some great shots from when we all got together to showcase tracks live at the Notting Hill Arts Club for the first album launch (see below). You can buy it at EASY ACTION or TESCO ONLINE (no joke!)

SUNRAY "One Note Jam (Reprise)"
Live at Notting Hill Arts Club, 24th October 2004

SUNRAY - Halogen Melody 8"

SUNRAY will be releasing HALOGEN MELODY (originally issued on Acid Tapes, 1995, for which I designed the cassette cover). This 8" lathe cute will be strictly limited to 23 copies and is released in September 2007. I'm on artwork duty again, although the idea this time is that several friends and collaborators will submit inividual hand made sleeves. WNCL will contribute 3 sleeves.
