DRUMZ OF THE SOUTH blogger and photographer, Georgina Cook, presents her Rogue's Gallery for 2010 including a shot from our session outside the real library in West Norwood. Check the whole thing and the WNCL mixtape for DOTS below...
I've just completed a brand new, dubplate only mixtape for the SOUNDS OF THE UNIVERSE record shop’s blog / podcast series featuring unreleased trax from Blawan, Brackles, Hackman, T Williams & Breach as well as a bunch of WNCL exclusives.
DFRNT, author of the SITTING OVATION blog and creator of MODUS magazine (see earlier post), has contributed a mix to the Advent Calendar series of podcasts hosted by DAS KRAFTFUTTERMISCHWERK.
The blog says "It’s a super-deep mix of dub-techno and dubstep from about 110 to 140 bpm. I’m all about the dub-techno in Winter. It always just seems so appropriate"
I couldn't agree more. Super deep track listing which includes the QUANTEC remix of MRS FINGERS.
Aerobic House workout from WNCL b/w a minimised and more refined Pearson Sound mix. After stints of dubstep and breaks-y dub-tech, WNCL unfurls 'Blonde On Blonde's classy yet rugged formation of bumpty Chicago House with crafty edits. On the flip Pearson Sound aka Ramadanman reduces the groove to a bare minimum of blocky kicks and sparing percussion, developing a kind of Tech-House pattern leading to sumptuous breakdown and back out again. Tidy. BOOMKAT
FUTUREPROOFING is the brand new blog from ANDREW RYCE, journalist for Resident Advisor, Little White Earbuds and FACT magazine.
It kicks off in fine fashion with an article on PUNCH DRUNK / ROOTED RECORDS head honcho, PEVERELIST with an interview and podcast thrown in for good measure. Nice.
MODUS is a brand new magazine "...aimed at dubstep, dub-techno and the surrounding genres and scenes. Designed to provide interesting articles, and thought provoking discussion, and not just the same old news and reviews".
It's available in printed and digital form and issue #1 has a nice feature on Cassette Library fave, QUANTEC. Go check it.
HACKMAN contributes the latest mixtape in The Daily Street series over at the FRIED MY LITTLE BRAIN blog. It not only includes WNCL's own BLONDE ON BLONDE (in shops 20th December) but also features a stack of expertly mixed, super tuff beats.
Also check his SOUNDCLOUD page for a whole bunch of great Hackman productions.
LABEL: WNCL Recordings CAT NO: WNCL004 ARTIST: KNOWING LOOKS SIDE A: Abandoned Skip SIDE B: Last Kiss At The Plains Hotel FORMAT: 10" Vinyl / Digital Download RELEASE: February 2011
KNOWING LOOKS aka Toronto based producer Jason Hopfner, records for Musique Risquee, is the co-founder of Grain Records and is a welcome addition to the WNCL stable
ABANDONED SKIP is an unashamed dancefloor killer with its hard as hell 2-steap beats, irresistible shuffle, swathes of funky electronics and perfectly placed rebel-rousing vocal chants.
LAST KISS AT THE PLAINS HOTEL, an epic tale of love and loss, displays a mastery of cut-up production and arrangement that nods as much to Bacharach and Mantovani as it winks to Todd Edwards and Akufen
Support from 2562, Ben UFO, Pariah and Blawan amongst others
2562 aka A MADE UP SOUND is featured over at URB this month. There's a Q&A and an exclusive mixtape, featuring the next release from KNOWING LOOKS, ABANDONED SKIP, forthcoming on WNCL Recordings in the new year.
I'm a bit late on these but the essential SONIC ROUTER radio show on HIVEMIIND FM has been showing more WNCL love in their November shows.
The show on the 14th previews the next WNCL Recordings release by KNOWING LOOKS (Abandoned Skip) - more about that soon - and the super deep PEARSON SOUND remix of BLONDE ON BLONDE (forthcoming Teal Records).
Also available to download / stream is the show from the 28th, featuring the recent free download of the MRS FINGERS remix / replekz by EKOPLEKZ (Punch Drunk Records) plus the original mix of BLONDE ON BLONDE
