MARY ANNE HOBBS - Radio1 Mix

The Big One. MARY ANNE HOBBS has not only been pushing WNCL 001 on her BBC Radio 1 Experimental show and on her recent Stateside jaunt but also asked for a 15 minute mini mix for last week's show. The underground equivalent of getting on Top of the Pops. How could I refuse?

The mix features new and forthcoming releases on the WNCL RECORDINGS label, upcoming material for other labels, remixes, dubplates and an exclusive VIP mix of WHAT IT IS.

I'll be hosting the extract soon. For now, check the iPlayer on the BBC homepage to catch the whole show, also featuring excellent mixes from PARIAH (R&S Records) and JOE (Hessle Audio / Applepips). All links below.

Massive thanks to Mary Anne from Cassette Library HQ

Back for another one. Various Bibliotek residents are holidaying and tending to new offspring, so this month we present a fresh line up for you.

CROSHAW makes a welcome return visit to warm things up with a vintage selection of jump blues and rock and roll, followed by sometime party promoter Zer0cool (aka Jamison Simmons) who will be turning things up a notch with a refusion set.

ALDWIN JOHNSON, owner of The Inspiration Suite studios and now fronting the UTOPIA SOUND SYSTEM will be treating us to a soul, funk and boogie combo from his legendary box of sevens.

CHERRIE FLAVA, buyer at SOUNDS OF THE UNIVERSE and A&R for SOUL JAZZ RECORDS is our third time special guest, embodying the spirit of the Bibliotek perfectly every time - expect Fresh Sounds and Library Archives. Also check her TING AND TING blog (link below).

ONE THIRTY BPM - Interview

ONE THIRTY BPM were kind enough to get in touch and request an interview. Not only that but they also made WNCL001 their single of the month. How nice. Big thanks to Andrew Ryce. Links to both, below.

SONIC ROUTER - Interview

It's those nice folk at SONIC ROUTER again, supporting the library cause. They've just published a WNCL interview (accompanied by the latest mugshots c/o GEORGINA COOK) which comes with an exclusive mixtape to download. I was particularly pleased to do a mixtape for them - after downloading all and sundry from their site for the last year or so, it was nice to put something back.

BEN UFO - XLR8R Podcast

Big shout to BEN UFO. He's been supporting WHAT IT IS and is now throwing his hat in for the latest from the library archives, BLONDE ON BLONDE (forthcoming on TEAL RECORDS). You can hear it on his latest mixtape for the XLR8R podcast series. Ben is, of course, part of the team behind the faultless HESSLE AUDIO label, resident DJ on RINSE FM and, having met him last night at the FREEDEM SOUNDS gig, a thoroughly nice chap to boot.

Cheers, Ben!
